The Guardian’s Assistant Editor, Entertainment & Lifestyle, Chuks Nwanne, has emerged Travel Reporter of the Year 2018 at this year’s Nigerian Travel Awards powered by Jumia Travels.
Nwanne polled 21.1 per cent of the total online vote cast to beat Omololu Olumuyiwa John of Travescope magazine (20.6 per cent); Wale Olaopade of Tribune (19.9 per cent); Obinna Emelike of BusinessDay (17 per cent); Pelu Awofeso of Travel Next Door (13.7 per cent) and Apata Oyeniran of Daily Independent (7.9 per cent) to clinch the award, which was presented yesterday at the Jupiter Hall of Four Points by Sheraton in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Reacting to the feat, the reporter, who was away in Port Harcourt, Rivers State for the suspended governorship and house of assembly elections, stated: “I feel honoured receiving this award and I thank The Guardian for giving me the platform to express myself through writing.“ I dedicate this award to my late mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Nwanne, who will be buried on April 5, 2019. She was instrumental to whatever I have become today. To those who voted me, I thank you all.”
Other categories of award were Travel Blogger/Vacation Planner of the Year; Hotel of the Year; Best Business Hotel; Best Leisure Hotel; Best Local Airline and Best International Airline of the Year. The well-followed event promotes Nigeria’s tourism sector, rewards the top players and encourages best practices and improved services.
