The CKN Foundation through its annual Empowerment Programme has empowered ten widows in Lagos.
The event which took place at Maximus Inn, Adeniyi Jones Avenue Ikeja,Lagos on Thursday ,15th December 2016 offered an opportunity for the widows to be beneficiaries of cash gifts of N15, 000 each from the CKN Foundation Empowerment Programme.
The special guest of honour was Mr Casmir Igbokwe, the Managing Director/Editor In Chief of The Union Newspaper and his wife while Mrs Nelly Agwu and Mrs Aramide were also present.
Mrs Aramide and Igbokwe who currently run NGOs for Widows were on hand to give their experiences as well as counsel the widows.
The widows who expressed their joy and surprised at the gesture thanked the organizers and donors for their kind gesture. Practically all of them said that was the first time they were receiving such gestures after the demise of their husbands. Some earn as little as N6,000 monthly.
Some had their kiosks demolished while some others don’t even have as little as N5,000 to start a pure water business to feed her family. One had been very sick and cannot afford to buy mere medications.
All of them were into menial jobs to feed at times their five children. They narrated the hardship they’re facing coupled with total neglect by families and friends. CKN on his part encouraged them to see their present condition as a temporary one because with God, all things are possible.
There is always light at the end of the tunnel. The event ended with a “little chop and drink”, at least for a long while they were given a little treat.
“May God bless all the hearts that gave out of their little at this austere period. May God’s abundance blessings abide with you and your entire family. We will not lose our love ones in Jesus name God willing the next edition will come up same time next year 15th December 2017,” said CKN.
