The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has assured the traders and communities around the Ikeja Computer Village, that his government would provide an Independent Power Plant (IPP) for the market.
He said this while receiving the endorsement of the market leaders and Igbo community leaders in the Village which is at the heart of Ikeja, the capital city of the state.
He said a market of that size deserves its own dedicated IPP, properly laid cables, and electricity meters. He said that his administration as part of his strategy of making Lagos a Smart City will ensure 24 hours electricity and Free Wifi at the Village which is the hub of computer and telephone devices adding that the market is capable of producing the next global computer genius.
“We will ensure that all these cables hanging dangerously within the market are cleared up,” Sanwo-Olu said. “We will make sure that you stop getting estimated bills, only meter bills. Computer Village, Ikeja, is the largest computer market in Africa and deserves its own IPP. With that, a very good Internet connection, and a computer training center, this place can produce the next Mark Zuckerberg or even a company as big as Apple. We will do it. But, we need your votes to achieve it.
“We are not about talking of divisions. We are one. Everybody living in Lagos is entitled to the same rights and privileges. We equally have one vote each and that is why I am here to seek your votes. I promise to be a listening governor.”
The governorship candidate arrived the market to thunderous cheers, singing and dancing by the Igbo-dominated market. He was received by market leaders and Igbo chiefs, who assured him of their total support. The Chairman of Igbos in the Ikeja Computer Village, Chief Tony Nwakaeze, said the traders in the market are in full support of Mr. Sanwo-Olu’s ambition.
“Because you have come and have shown us love, we are behind you all the way. Your governorship has been ordained by God, and nothing can stop it,” Chief Nwakaeze said.
Other prominent names in attendance were, the Chairman of Elders, Computer Village; Chief Joseph Nnaji, Eze Ndigbo of Ikeja; Eze Uche Dimgba, an elder of Igbo in Computer Village. Also on hand was the APC Lagos State Publicity Secretary, Comrade Joe Igbokwe.
