Presidential Candidate of PDP has voted in his hometown of Adamawa on Saturday. Accompanied by his first wife who was also the second lady he was vice president during the Olusegun Obasanjo regime, Atiku voted at his polling unit of Ajiya in Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State at 10.06am.
When asked by journalists if he will accept the result if he loses, he said: ‘I am a democrat.’ He said he is optimistic he will emerge winner and await successful transition.
Prior to the election, Atiku has been accused of gross corruption and has been referred to as a thief who will sell the nation’s assets. The allegation of corruption levelled against has been given as one of the reasons he could not travel to the United States. A few weeks before the election, he travelled to the U.S unannounced.
In an article by Bloomberg, Atiku was referred to as “an alleged kleptocrat of international repute?” who has “tried and failed several times already to secure the top job….”
