South African based non -governmental organisation, DigifyAfrica through its Nigerian arm, DigifyPro has commenced the training of 20 young Nigerian graduates.
The training, supported by Facebook, kicked off on last Thursday at the CC Hub Center, Yaba, Lagos. Speaking at the event, Florence Olumodimu, programme director, DigifyPro said in her welcome address that the planning for the event began in 2015.
“We decided that we will target 20 smart Nigerian graduates between 20 and 30 years old. It is not that we lack talents in Nigeria but we lack opportunities,” she explained.
According to Olumodimu beyond teaching the candidates the theory, practical sessions on digital marketing will also be involved as representatives from advert agencies will invited to teach them how to plan and execute briefs.
“The representative from the agency will give brief to the students to work on. We are going to empower them with employability skills and sign them up as interns with advert agencies.
Likewise, Qhakaza Mthembu, head of strategy, DigifyAfrica said the programme is focused on empowering young people with social media marketing skills in a technology driven age.
“We are creating programme for the technology industry, she explained. “The programme basics of digital marketing. It is carefully curated to meet the expectations of the participates and equip them for life after the programme.”
The participates were drawn from different states across the country with high participation for Lagos-based candidates. One of the candidates, Faith Jonathan, a graduate of English education from Abraka said she hopes to impact her community positively with the skills she acquires from the programme by training other people on digital marketing.
