Last year turned out to be unpredictable for everyone across the world due to the Covid19 pandemic. There is a spillover of the outbreak into 2021. Already, some of the products that trended online last year are taking a leap into the New Year. Here are a few of them:
Smart mirror
“Smart” products were all the rage in 2020 and with our world showing no signs of becoming less digital, this trend seems set to carry through to the new year. Smart mirrors can be customized to display the date, weather, reminders, and a host of other features.

In 2020, smart mirrors were most popular from January to May, peaking in late March. Search interest in early 2021 is already higher than any point last year, meaning the product is likely to grow in popularity over the next couple of months.
Marketing tip: Don’t overlook aesthetics when sourcing your product. Advanced features make a great selling point now, but if smart mirrors become a common household item, aesthetics will do more to set your brand apart in a highly-saturated market.
TV stick
TV sticks are portable devices that plug directly into your TV’s HDMI ports, allowing you to broadcast from your phone, tablet, or computer. Since they work by directly sharing screens with other devices, they’re compatible with nearly any streaming service.

Search interest was stable in 2020, peaking in late-November. Since Christmas, searches for TV sticks have continued to grow. Search interest is already higher this January than at any point before November last year, meaning TV sticks could turn out to be hugely popular in 2021.
Marketing tip: Customers will want assurance that your product functions as intended. Add product reviews to your store, provide accessible info about your return policy, and make sure to test any products you source from a third-party.
Salicylic Acid
Salicylic acid is a medicinal skincare product that works by dissolving the outer layer of skin around an infected area, making it an effective at-home treatment for small skin infections like warts, pimples, calluses, and even ringworm.

Salicylic acid dates back to ancient Greece, so it’s by no means a “new” product, but search interest was especially high in 2020, growing steadily and peaking in August. Post-2020, search interest has starting climbing again, and its already matched its peak from last year.
Marketing tip: Salicylic acid can be sold on its own, but it’s also often used as an ingredient in ointments, serums, facemasks, and pore cleansing pads. Cross-selling various salicylic acid products could be a great way to boost sales and build brand loyalty.
Non-alcoholic drinks
Alcoholic beverages had a record-breaking year in 2020, but with the holidays over, we seem to be nursing a hangover. Searches for wine and beer are down post-holiday season, but searches for “mocktails”, “punch”, “cola”, and the more-broad “non-alcoholic drinks” are all up.

In the first week of 2021, searches for non-alcoholic drinks are already higher than at any point in 2020, including its late-November peak. In fact, search interest right now is twice as high as it was this time last year.
Marketing tip: Searches for non-alcoholic drink recipes are especially high right now, meaning extensive keyword research and a solid SEO marketing strategy will go a long way in generating high-value web traffic to your store.
