The Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has pledged to tackle flooding in Magodo Phase II if elected.
The APC candidate made the pledge yesterday at a town hall meeting organised by Magodo Residents’ Association (MRA). His running mate, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, was also at the meeting.
Sanwo-Olu, who noted that Magodo developed faster than the projection of the government, said his administration would construct a sustainable drainage in the area to address problems of flood facing the residents.
Describing Magodo as “strategic community”, Sanwo-Olu said his government would preserve the assets of residents and protect the development brought to the area by residents.
He said: “Magodo is one of the fastest growing residential communities in Lagos whose development shouldn’t be left to the residents alone. Despite the beautiful development and organisation we have seen in Magodo, we understand there are a number of challenges facing the residents, including the problem of flooding.
“We are coming to tackle this problem and make Magodo habitable for residents. We will quickly address the flooding issue by construction a sustainable drainage. We will also strengthen security and partner with MRA to make the proposed amusement park a reality.”
Sanwo-Olu hailed Magodo residents for sustaining harmony and peaceful coexistence in the area, noting that the neighborhood presented a perfect example how Nigerians should co-exist, given that people of diverse ethnicity, religion and professional backgrounds live in the area without discrimination.
He urged MRA executive members and residents to sustain inclusion.
MRA Chairman, Mr Jade Niboro, noted that Sanwo-Olu became the first governorship candidate to visit Magodo residents during electioneering, observing that the gesture showed the APC candidate was ready to tackle the challenges facing the community.
